We love hands on learning in Jr. Kindergarten! Students wear many hats in my classroom. They quickly become scientists inspecting spiders or predicting the outcome of an experiment. They are roving reporters observing letters and numbers around them. Mathematicians counting, adding and writing our numbers. Jr. Kindergarten is an environment that encourages children to explore the world around them. We are emergent pre-readers that take picture walks, make connections to stories, and develop a love for books. Most importantly, we play and have fun!
Favorite class projects? Polar Bear Unit - especially learning about BLUBBER! Spider Unit - I love teaching students about the beauty of spiders. Christmas Play - it is extraordinary that 4 and 5 year olds tell the story of Baby Jesus! I love when students start to make text to self connections with books. This is how we develop a love for reading at such an early age! Favorite class books? The Mitten by Jan Brett Hey, Little Ant! The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle |
